Within the BIONIC project regional networks will be formed, made up of representatives from a wide range of partner organisations from both public and private sectors. The networks will meet regularly to discuss regional issues, provide direct support to the case studies and disseminate feedback from the other sites in the BIONIC project.

The five participating regions which will set up regional actions as part of BIONIC are:

NORTH WEST ENGLAND, UK
The local network for the North-West of England is the North West Biofuels Network. The network includes two major conurbations centred on Liverpool and Manchester , as well as more rural areas, particularly in Lancashire and Cumbria .

Membership is informal, and includes local authority and other public sector fleet operators; major private sector fleet operators; research and business support organisations, biofuel suppliers and agricultural interests.

CANTABRIA, SPAIN
The local network will cover the Region of Cantabria in the north of Spain , an area of 5,289 square kilometres between the mountains of the Cordillera Cantabrica and the Cantabrian Sea . The area boasts a good transport network, by land, air and sea.

The largest cities of the region are situated here, with good opportunities for producing biogas using their refuse tip. The south-eastern part of Värmland offers possibilities for growing rape seed to produce biodiesel. The rest of Värmland is a forest area and produces raw material that can be used for the production of ethanol and methanol.

The network will be made up of several sub-groups each working on issues related to a specific fuel, including biogas, bioethanol, biodiesel and methanol.

If you would be interested in joining the Region Värmland Biofuels Network please contact Region Varmland.

PRAHOVA, ROMANIA
