Lancashire sits in the heart of England 's North West .

The Lancashire region (including Lancashire County Council and the 2 unitary authorities of Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen) covers 3,075 square kilometres, and has a population of over 1.4 million people, making Lancashire one of the most populous and urbanised 'shire' counties in Britain .

With a £21bn per annum economy, and home to more than 41,000 businesses, Lancashire is one of the largest sub-regions in Britain in respect of its contribution to national output.

Lancashire County Council is responsible for delivering a wide range of services to individuals, communities and local organisations across the county of Lancashire . It works closely with a number of district authorities with an ambition to promote economic, social and environmental well-being in Lancashire , and in 2005 Lancashire County Council was judged a 4 star council.

The Council has a leader, cabinet and scrutiny team. There are 84 councillors who sit on Lancashire County Council and these are elected every 4 years.
